Welcome to the AFOWC of Washington, DC
The Air Force Officers' Wives' Club of Washington, D.C. ("AFOWC") was organized in 1923 and has the distinction of being the oldest OWC in the Air Force. The purpose of the AFOWC is to promote and preserve interest in Air Force activities; promote friendship, unify interest and activities of its individual members; and to sponsor welfare projects for the United States Air Force and in the civilian community.
Opportunities abound for those members who are interested in volunteering during their stop in D.C. This past year, our Charity Ball raised $563,000 for the Air Force Aid Society. Our Thrift Shop, located at Bolling AFB, is another way that the AFWOC raises money to give back to our community. The available proceeds from our Thrift Shop at Bolling AFB for local scholarship recipients average $15,000 per year.
Of course, the AFOWC fuels its philanthropic efforts with a fabulous social schedule. The AFOWC played host to this year's JAFOWL event, hosting First Lady Michelle Obama at the Bolling Club. Each December, the AFOWC visits the White House to view its glorious holiday decor. In addition, the AFOWC makes available to its members a variety of smaller Special Activities, such as Lunch Bunch, Supper Club, Mahjongg, and ZIP Code groups.
Our members include spouses of retirees and active duty military personnel, as well as civilian government employees. Our members hail from Bolling AFB, Andrews AFB, the Pentagon, Ft. Myer, Ft. McNair, and beyond, while representing all branches of the U.S. military, including the Air Force, Air National Guard, Army, Marines, Navy and Coast Guard.
Along with our active membership representing the United States Air Force, the AFOWC is especially proud of its international spouses, representing over 20 different countries. Our international spouses give generously of their time to our annual International World Showcase held each spring. If you would like to be a part of our international spouses' group, please contact International@afowc.com for more information.
Our monthly socials are usually held the third Tuesday of each month, with the exception of June and July.
The AFOWC is pleased to extend an invitation to join our organization if you are eligible. Our luncheons, coffees and other special activities provide a comfortable atmosphere in which to meet new friends, renew old friendships, and learn about the wonderful area in which we live. If you are a military officer spouse living in the Washington, DC area and you would like more information on joining the AFOWC, please take a moment to complete our online contact form.
